Octavius Black, Global Managing Director
Octavius co-founded The Mind Gym, initially in his kitchen, then the living room, the hall and the spare bedroom. Today he is responsible for ensuring that the company lives up to its promise: to help people use their minds more effectively so that they get more out of life and give more to others.
Triumphs
- Octavius led the sales & marketing side of employee communication consultancy Smythe Dorward Lambert as it grew from 9 to 100 people. The consultancy was sold to Omnicom in 1996.
- He trained at Booz.Allen and Hamilton and was a journalist on both sides of the Atlantic.
- He co-authored 'The Mind Gym: wake your mind up' and 'The Mind Gym: give me time'.
Disasters
- Octavius was working for tycoon Robert Maxwell at the time Mr Maxwell jumped ship.
Final note
Octavius has an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and is also a patron of the Campaign for Learning.
Sebastian Bailey, Global Product Director
Seb, a bachelor in psychology, is the mind behind the gym. From the beginning, he's been responsible for the integrity of all products, supporting learning and every other aspect of psychological content.
Triumphs
- Seb worked for several years at business psychology consultancy, Nicholson McBride.
- He spent four years chairing a charity, whose objective was to support adults and children marginalised through poverty, infirmity and disability.
- Seb co-authored 'The Mind Gym: wake your mind up' and 'The Mind Gym: give me time'.
Disasters
- Seb nearly choked on national radio during a listener phone-in when asked the difference between envy and jealousy.
Final note
Seb has a Bsc in Psychology with Cognitive Science and is currently researching the impact of bite size learning as part of his PhD at Bristol University.
David Roberts, Non-Executive Chairman
David Roberts is Chairman and Chief Executive designate of BawagPSK AG, the fourth largest Bank in Austria. BawagPSK is owned by Cerberus Capital Management, the US Private Equity business. He is also a member of the Court of Governors of Henley Business School.
Prior to joining BawagPSK, David was a main board director of Barclays PLC and a member of the Group Executive Committee from 2001 - 2006. His roles in Barclays included Chief Executve, Business Banking, Chief Executive, Personal Financial Services, and latterly Chief Executive Interntional Retail & Commercial Banking.
David is married with 6 children and lives in the UK and Austria.
