Remembering whatsisname

Sophie, oh, I mean Suzie or is it Katie? Oh Amy, ah yes, of course it is.

It can be flattering when someone remembers your name. It’s always annoying when they don’t. Yet most of us find that our ability to remember names is at best patchy. And it’s only going to get harder as we meet more people from a variety of different cultures with unfamiliar sounding names.

The memory man uses techniques to encode and recall the names of each member of his audience as he greets them on the way in. Whilst it takes a great deal of practice to memorize hundreds of names in one go, most of us would be content with half a dozen. Using similar techniques we can not only remember names but also where we met, what we discussed and whether or when we agreed to get back in touch.

Would that be useful?
